IPL HAIR REMOVAL
IPL is an abbreviation for Intense Pulsed Light and involves the use of specific wavelengths of light. Not to be confused with Laser treatments, IPL is used for a range of aesthetic and therapeutic treatments including hair reduction. This treatment requires a series of sessions at set intervals, governed by several factors such as hair location, skin type and hair type.
How does IPL work?
The light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair and is converted into heat. this damages the follicle making it unable to support further hair growth. The number of treatments required will vary, but you should expect to see significant results within 3-6 treatments. A full course of 6-10 treatments is recommended to achieve long lasting results, with sessions usually spaced 3-4 weeks apart. After your course, you may need to attend for a further top up session for the odd hair that may regrow.
Does this treatment hurt?
Unlike other IPL and laser machines on the market, the Skinbase machine features a unique cooling cryo-handset. This handset creates an anaesthetic effect on the skin surface to provide the most comfortable treatment experience. This treatment is pain free for the majority of individuals, usually described as a warm tingling sensation that is much easier to tolerate than other conventional methods such as waxing, laser and electrolysis.
Which areas can be treated?
Unwanted hair can be removed from mosts parts of the body, with some of the most popular areas including the legs, upper lip & chin, bikini line, underarm and back.
Are there any risks involved?
Skinbase are proud to declare that their amazing IPL machine is Medically CE certified. This has been independently tested and verified by one of the country's leading experts on IPL. Any risks and contra-indications will be discussed in great depth during the initial consultation, with the main contra-indication being an active sun tan on the area to be treated. Therefore sun exposure, sunbeds and fake tan should be avoided for a minimum of 1 month either side of the IPL treatment and throughout the course.
Is this treatment right for me?
Some less advanced IPL systems can only be used on a limited amount of skin types, but the Skinbase IPL has been clinically proven to work on almost all skin types with the exception of very dark skin. The system settings can be fine tuned to suit specific skin and hair type combinations, which allows the best results to be achieved. Since IPL targets the melanin in the hair, this treatment is not suitable for white, grey or red hair types.
How much does this treatment cost?
The price will depend on the area being treated and the number of treatments required. The price of the treatment will be provided in the initial consultation and the rate will be discounted when booking a course as opposed to one-off treatments.
